Ocean University of China (OUC) was established in 1924. It is a comprehensive university with its strength in oceanography and fisheries science.

OUC has been approved as one of the national key universities with “Project 985” and “Project 211”. Both “Project 985” and “Project 211” are conducted by the government of the People's Republic of China. “Project 985” is a constructive project for founding world-class universities in the 21st century and “Project 211” is a constructive project of nearly 100 universities and disciplines in the 21st century , which aims at cultivating high-level talents for national economic and social development strategies.

OUC offers courses in Science, Engineering, Agronomy (Fisheries), Economics, Liberal Arts, Pharmaceutics, Management, Law, and Education.

OUC has over 24,400 registered students, including 5,115 doctoral or master’s degree students, over 11,691 undergraduates and 1,200 international students.

OUC has developed various cooperation relations and exchange programs with over 140 universities and research institutions from more than 20 countries and regions, including the U.S.A., Germany, the U.K., France, the Netherlands, South Korea, Japan, Thailand, Russia, Australia, etc.

Since 1950’s, OUC has begun to accept international students and now there have been 8000 international students graduated from OUC. Three of the graduates gained the First Prize of National Chinese Speaking Competition. OUC is chosen by the University of Cambridge of the U.K. to conduct tailor-made courses for their undergraduate students in 1993. Since 1997, the International Chinese Business Program is started at OUC. The majority of students for the International Chinese Business Program are from Germany.
