October 05 - 2009: IPA Executive Director Dr. Randolph Kluver speaks at News Media and Global Transformation Conference
Dr. Randy Kluver, Executive Director of the Institute for Pacific Asia at Texas A&M University, recently presented the results of his research on the impact of new media on international relations at a conference at Columbia University. The conference, entitled "New Media and Global Transformation," was convened at Columbia as a venue to explore the impact of the advent of digital technologies on social life, particularly within the context of Chinese law and journalism. Scholars from Harvard, Columbia, McGill, Duke, and other leading institutions met to discuss the ways in which technology and social practice interact. Dr. Kluver's presentation, entitled "The Logic of New Media in International Relations," explored the impact of new media technologies on human perceptions of international issues. The conference was supported by Jiefang Media Group, China's second largest media group, the Weatherhead East Asian Institute at Columbia University, and the Centre for Chinese Legal Studies at Columbia.
