April 10 - 27, 2008- Asian Heritage Week 2008

 

The Asian Presidents Council (APC) is hosting its annual Asian Heritage Week which will begin on April 10, 2008. This special week-long celebration is APC’s major annual event to create an environment for Asian culture and knowledge education on campus, and to cultivate an appreciation towards Asian arts and tradition. The highlight this year is an Asian Film Festival which spans 2 weeks and features movies from China, India, Vietnam, as well as one that tells a story of Asians living in America.

DETAILED SCHEDULE

April 10th

  • Asian Heritage Week Opening Ceremonies

MSC Flagroom and Stark Galleries at 2:30 p.m. includes live cultural performances from ISA, VASA, CSSA, and PhilSA. A reception will also be held in the Stark Galleries following the speeches

  • Movie Screening- Journey from the Fall
    Wehner Room 113 at 7 p.m.

  • The director of the film, Ham Tran, will be our guest speaker and will be in attendance

April 16th

April 19th

  • Iron Chef Charity Event hosted by the Vietnamese Students Association(VASA)
    MSC Kitchen from 3 p.m. – 9 p.m.
    A contest of cooking ability to all those who are brave enough to accept the challenge. The contest will be setup as follows: teams from different organizations will be registered to compete; they will then be provided with a certain secret ingredient that they will have to incorporate into their dishes; they will be allowed an allotted time to go buy the rest of their ingredients with an allotted allowance; then they will then be allow a certain time to cook and prepare their Asian dishes. There will be judges picked for the judging of dishes and winner will receive something. We wanted to sell $1 or $2 tickets to all those who are not participating in competition to go watch and taste some of the food made in the competition and all the proceeds (and a donation box) will go to a charity of our choice.

April 24th

April 25th

  • Movie Screening- Lagaan
    Rudder Theatre 7:00 PM

 

April 27thth

  • Asia United Dodgeball Tournament hosted by Asian American Intervarsity(AAIV) and Closing Ceremonies

Reed Building at 5:30 p.m.

This event is essentially designed to be a dodgeball tournament between approximately 14-16 teams in order to raise money for an Asian specific organization.  We want all organizations under APC to take place in the tournament this year as our theme is unity.
