September 18 2008 -Award winning movie Divided We Fall:
Americans in the Aftermath to be screened on September 22
Date: September 22, 2008 Time: 5:30 pm As part of its 25th Anniversary Series, the Center for Teaching
Excellence will screen the award-winning film, Divided We Fall:
Americans in the Aftermath on September 22, 2008. This powerful
documentary tells the story of the murder of Balbir Singh Sodhi, a
52 year-old, turbaned Sikh-American who was gunned down in his
gas-station at Mesa, Arizona, by a man who considered himself a
patriot. The central message of this film - the power of forgiveness
- is told through the story of Sodhi' s death, and his family's and the
local community's response to the tragedy. This film also tells the
story of Valerie Kaur, who began the journey to create Divided We Fall
for an undergraduate honor's thesis on post 9/11 America. The CTE joins over 70 other institutions across the United States
commemorating 9/11 during the month of September with the showing of
this film.
The CTE is partnering with the Office of the Vice President & Associate
Provost for Diversity, and the Graduate Teaching Academy to present an
evening of film and discussion. Please join us for this special event.
Refreshments will be provided.
