August 6,2008- This month, all eyes are on China. With a stronger-than-ever economy, China has become a key player in world politics. However, human right issues, pollution, and food safety remain some of the major concerns the rest of the world has for China, especially during the olympics, which China promised a "safe" Olympics. In another two weeks or so, the world will know how China scores in the Games.

What does the Beijing Olympic emblem mean?
The emblem is called “Chinese Seal, Dancing Beijing”. It is the image of a traditional Chinese seal with a modern interpretation of the calligraphic form of the character “jing”, which means national capital and is also the latter of the city’s name.

What are the official mascots?
The five Fuwa, which literally means "good luck dolls" and is translated as Friendlies in English, are the 2008 Olympic Mascots. The Fuwa consist of five members that incorporate fish, giant panda, fire, Tibetan antelope, and swallow designs. Each of the five Fuwa represents one of the colours of the five Olympic Rings that stand for the five continents. The five Fuwa are named Beibei, Jingjing, Huanhuan, Yingying, and Nini. When the first syllable of each of the five names are said together (Běijīng huānyíng nĭ), it means "Beijing welcomes you".

Is there a slogan?
"One World One Dream" is the theme slogan of the Beijing Olympics. It reflects the essence and the universal values of the Olympic spirit -- Unity, Friendship, Progress, Harmony, Participation and Dream. It expresses the common wishes of people all over the world, inspired by the Olympic ideals, to strive for a bright future of Mankind. In spite of the differences in colors, languages and races, we share the charm and joy of the Olympic Games, and together we seek for the ideal of Mankind for peace. We belong to the same world and we share the same aspirations and dreams.
Are all the competition held in Beijing?
Although the Olympics are commonly referred to as the “Beijing Olympics,” in fact, there are six different cities in China that are co-hosting Olympic events, including Hong Kong, Shanghai, Tianjin, Shenyang, Qinhuangdao and Qingdao.
