Chinese Language Teaching Seminar -
Prepare Texas students to successfully compete in an increasingly global marketplace
April 28, 2008
About the conference The Confucius Institute at Texas A&M University and the Chinese Language Teachers Association—Texas are co-hosting this seminar to encourage Chinese language education and global competence among students in Texas. The rise of China in the international economic and political stage has made learning Chinese as a second language a global trend in the last few years. In U.S. schools, the number of students learning Mandarin jumped from an estimated 5,000 to 50,000, a ten-fold increase, between 2000 and 2005. However, starting a Chinese program is no easy task. In this conference, speakers will share their experience on how to establish and sustain a meaningful Chinese program, how to find qualified teachers, and what kind of technical assistance and resources are available. Who should attend State or local education administrators, school principals and teachers, policy makers, university faculty, and concerned parents are all welcome.
