An earthquake of magnitude 7.8, the worst to hit China in 30 years, hit Sichuan, China at 0228 CST (0728 GMT) on May 12, 2008.  It was so powerful that people in a large part of China could feel it. Lots of aftershocks have affected the surrounding areas.

A large number of people have been affected by this tragedy. More than 14,000 deaths have already been recorded. The number of casualties is expected to rise continually. Homes, friends, families, and beloved ones have been lost.

Chinese Students and Scholars Association (CSSA) at Texas A&M University is calling for donations to provide some relief to people in need. We would greatly appreciate your donation.  All money collected will be used to provide food, medicine, shelter, etc. to support the survivors at this crucial stage and to help them rebuild their communities.

北京时间5月12日14时28分，四川省汶川县(北纬31度，东经103.4度)发生7.8级强烈地震，并余震上百余次 (最高震级6级)，全国大部分地区有震感 ，为数十年来之最。截至北京时间13日零时，四川地震灾区殉难者已逾万名，重庆、云南、甘肃、陕西等其它地区死难数百名，伤者无数，实际伤亡数字很可能会进一步增加，经济损失更是无法估计。
            在这次可怕的自然灾难中，人员伤亡无数，房屋道路等基础设施损毁无数， 成千上万的同胞失去了他们至爱的亲人， 朋友和生活的家园。 他们急需食品，衣物，药品来渡过这场危机。一方有难，八方支援，为支持灾区抗灾，帮助受灾民众共渡难关，德州A&M大学中国学生学者联合会特发出捐款倡议，在祖国危急时刻，让我们伸出一双友爱之手，献出一颗赤子之心，让受灾的亲人在最危难的时候，感受到人间的真情。您的仁爱之心，您的点滴之恩，都会极大地救助一位灾区的同胞, 甚至挽救一个生命。灾害面前，亲情无限。危难关头，血浓于水。请您伸出慷慨的援助之手, 踊跃捐款，尽力而为, 以帮助受灾的同胞缓解他们的损失和痛苦。
