The Freeman Indonesia Nonprofit Internship Program (FINIP), funded by the Freeman Foundation, aims to develop student leaders and strengthen the nonprofit sector in Indonesia. IIE will select and pair 10 Indonesian students pursuing U.S. degrees with 10 U.S. undergraduates and arrange internships for them to work together in an Indonesian nonprofit organization. The Summer 2010 application deadline is February 15, 2010.

The Gilman Scholarship offers up to $5,000 for U.S. citizen undergraduate students receiving a federal pell grant to study abroad anywhere in the world. An additional $3,000 is available for study of critical need languages.

CSSA CW 2009The Confucius Institute and Chinese Students and Scholars Association are organizing the China Week in Aggieland. The weeklong event starts on the 29th of September and runs till the 3rd of October. The event will showcase a potpourri of Chinese cultural events.
Dr Stephen OwenChang’an (modern Xi’an) was the capital of the Western Han in the second and first centuries B.C.E. and of the Sui and Tang dynasties, from the end of the sixth to the beginning of the tenth century C.E. In the Tang it was the largest city in the world, and its urban topography is well-known, both from archeology and from the textual record. In this lecture Dr Owen will talk about the Tang city and contemporary responses to it. Stephen Owen, whose specialty is Tang dynasty poetry and Chinese literature and poetry in general, is the James Bryant Conant University Professor at Harvard. This lecture is a part of the Phi Beta Kappa Visiting Scholar Lecture series.
